Every Flock Has a Shepherd to Collect the Fleece
A friend sent me the alleged quote that is the body of this story. It is supposed to be from a political expert who achieved considerable success and fame as a campaign manager.
I tried to verify it on Snopes but it was labeled “undetermined.”
Thus, for me at least, it is not a quote that should be attributed and I have removed the quotation marks and the identity of the alleged speaker.
You will also note several blanks labeled A and B. They were previously filled with the name of one of the political parties or, in a few cases, the other political party. I removed those too because if the speaker can’t be verified, the political party can’t either.
So, we end up with an unverified quote, from an unidentified speaker about an unidentified political party.
Where’s the story there? You might try reading it both ways.
Ideologies aren’t all that important. What’s important is psychology.
The __A___ constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do is lay out enough silage and they come running. That’s why I became an operative working with ___A___. With ___A____ all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd.
Eighty percent of the people who call themselves ___A’s____ don’t have a clue as to political reality.
What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are [positive characteristic] and convince them that they should support [proposed solutions] that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want.
The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became an __A___ operative instead of a ___B___ was because there were more __A’s__ that didn’t have a clue than there were __B’s__.
Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you’re smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That’s why I’m an ___A___. I can make the ___A____ voters think whatever I want them to.
Another friend gave me the title and it seemed to cover both possible readings of this story.
